Is religion important??

Question was....
Oh..it is anonymous. That is good. Well I am from a small town near Salt Lake City, Utah. I moved here four years ago when I was 18 in hopes of pursuing my dreams. I was converted to the mormon church and without further explanation, I believe it is true. I hope you don't judge my religion because it is actually a very hot topic right now. I met the man of my dreams and have been dating him for 1.5 years.... but he doesn't believe the same thing I do when it comes to religion. My question is: How much do you feel religion is important in a marriage or relationship?

Thanks Truth Be Told!

I love your blog.
My thoughts...

Well thank you for saying you love my blog I really appreciate it! I am also a member of the mormon church and with knowing what our beliefs are I can see why it is such a concern for you.  Honestly in my opinion religion is everything... we believe in eternal marriage and we want someone who can take us to the temple to be sealed for time and all eternity.  I don't know how against he is about this religion or if he is open to the thought of learning more about it. I know love is a powerful thing and it makes us do things and accept things that we wouldn't normally do.  But I think that this is something you need to decide how important it is to you... you and I believe in eternity and I wouldn't be able to settle for anything less and you shouldn't either.  Try and get him to take lessons with you or get him in touch with some missionoaries.. he may come around. Show him how much joy and happiness the gospel brings you and how it can bring him the same thing... after you have tried all that then you can make the decision whether or not religion is a deal breaker for you, but if you are questioning it I can already tell it is a big deal for you.  Stick to your gut and pray! Everything will work out fine! Good luck!

To the Concerned One

Question was...
hi. i found your blog through a friends blog. and first i want you to know that i really appreciate what you are doing. i hope you can answer this. it is pretty complicated. i am in love with my boyfriend. and i dont know if you are a religious person at all, but he revealed to me last week a lot of his past. we were planning on getting married in june. but he told me a lot of things like he isn't a virgin anymore, he did drugs, and he comes from an abusive family. everything seems to be falling apart. i am trying my hardest to not be judgmental, and i don't think i am. my love for him has not changed one bit. but do i continue loving him and plan on marrying him forever? Or what do i do? it's harder to handle than ic an tell you. and sorry if posted this in the wrong area. i looked for an email but couldnt find one.
thanks again,
concerned.

My Thoughts....
Well first off I want to start out by saying I appreciate what you said about what I am trying to do! I just hope I can help! Now to your question, love is HARD to find and once you have it I think you you need to be really careful about what you do with it.  If finding out all of these things about his past is a deal breaker for you then you have to figure out how to walk away because in the long run you don't want to settle for less than you deserve.  For me when I get married it will be for eternity! Now you also have to remember that people make mistakes, no one is perfect and we all have a past that we may or may not be PROUD of.  Him telling you all of these things shows that he trusts you enough to share his deepest secrets and wants to share his entire life with you! That is something that can be very rare! If you still love him as much as you did before DON"T take that love for grantid! You never know when the day will come that you may not have it anymore and you don't want to be living with regrets.  Trust in your instincts! They know best!! :) I hope this helped at least just a little! Let me know how it goes!

Question Was...
Alright, truth be told! I’m the “concerned one.” My boyfriend and I are very serious. However, his family and my family are completely opposite. IT doesn’t seem like that big of a deal, but it really is!! It’s been rough because his family is so proper and my family is…not! We’re crazy. It’s so hard when some of my family thinks he’s “not good for me,” and some of his family thinks the same!! IT makes me SO SAD. We’ll get in fights about it and everything, and family is soo important to both of us. It causes fights, and it’s getting really frustrating considering some of his family doesn’t like me and some of my family doesn’t like him. It’s causing lots of stress ☹
Thanks for your help!!
-Concerned one

My Thoughts...
Well concerned one, How much of an influence is your family making on your relationship? If in the end you aren't going to let family determine the outcome of your relationship then there isn't any reason to stress over it.  You two know what is best for eachother more than anyone else does.  Family is extremely important but once they realize that there influence isn't going to change your opinion and if they can see that you are both really happy with eachother I honestly think that in the long run they will back off! Let your families disagreements make you closer as a couple, not tear you apart! I hope this helped!

Question was...
Truth Be Told,
I have been in love with my best friend for a long time now and I do not know how to tell her. I think she feels the same way but I'm scared she'll shut me down. What's a guy to do?

My Thoughts...
Just talk to her... Communication is such a big thing with someone.  Talking to her about the way you both feel mutually can clear up alot of the questions, I know that it can be really scary but if the opportunity arises for the convo to happen, TAKE IT, you deserve to know how she feels! Good luck! Let me know how it goes!! :)
